A LEGACY REWARDED, 2003
If ever an accolade was richly deserved, it was this one. The 700 professionals from across the international live event production industry who attended the TPi (Total Production International) Awards 2003 gala in London at the Hilton Metropole in London¹s Edgware Road witnessed Manfred Mann alumni Paul Jones and Tom McGuinness presenting the Lifetime Contribution Award to Harold and Barbara Pendleton, in recognition of their massive impact on live music.
“At last, we’ve been accepted!” joked Harold, who added, “but seriously, this a real honour and it’s wonderful to share the moment in the company of so many great people.”
Held on January 29th 2003, the second annual TPi event was also graced by the presence of an old friend of the Pendletons, jazz icon Chris Barber OBE, who waxed lyrical into the night about the couple’s notable achievements with the Marquee Group of Companies, not least the founding of Entec. Other guest presenters included Motorhead frontman Lemmy, cult rocker John Otway, Glastonbury supremo Michael Eavis and Andrew Zweck of Sensible Events.
Damon Albarn made a special appearance to pay a heartfelt tribute to tour manager Terry Coyle, who tragically died whilst on the road the previous November. Thousands of pounds were donated by attendees to assist Terry’s family.
