NOREEN VICTORIOUS, 2017
Following in the footsteps of Harold & Barbara Pendleton, Noreen O’Riordan, the company’s managing director and head of lighting, was presented with the prestigious Outstanding Contribution award at the TPi Awards 2017, at Battersea Evolution in London.
Traditionally the highlight of the annual TPi Awards ceremony, the Outstanding Contribution award (previously Lifetime Contribution) is bestowed upon a person whose long career has been distinguished not only by achievement but also by the way they have carried themselves as a professional in an ever-changing industry. Previous recipients of the award have included the industry’s biggest names, such as Mark Fisher, Hedwig De Meyer, Claude Nobs, Bob Doyle, Mick Upton, Charlie Kail and Mick Kluzcynski.
This was the first time that the award had been given exclusively to a woman. It was announced by comedian host Russell Kane and presented by Luke Marler-Hausen, business development manager at Blackmagic Design, the category sponsor.
MESSAGES
Witnessed on February 27th 2017 by more than 1,400 guests, the presentation featured on-screen messages from a raft of industry contemporaries and artists including The Who’s singer and Teenage Cancer Trust patron Roger Daltrey, Blur’s Damon Albarn and Alex James, Madness frontman Suggs, singer-songwriter Margo Buchanan, Sir Paul McCartney alumni Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens and Robbie McIntosh, and promoter Barrie Marshall.
“Noreen, the help that you’ve given myself and Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall for the last 17 years has been invaluable, and I can’t thank you enough,” said Roger. Alex James gushed: “Where would we be without you, Noreen? We’d be in a dark, cold, silent place! You know exactly what to do and exactly how to do it.”

Taken completely by surprise, Noreen commented: “I am bursting with pride. I really had no idea that this was going to happen so from now on I’m sleeping with one eye open! My thanks go out to Andy Lenthall, TPi, Mark Cunningham, Craig Duffy, Adam Stevenson, Jonny Clark, Team Pendleton, Team Entec, Luke at Blackmagic Design and all the legends who contributed to the amazing video tribute. Big love!”
In 2006, three years after the Pendletons’ legacy was recognised, Dick Hayes stepped onstage to receive Entec’s Sound Rental Company of the Year trophy from host Paul Gambaccini and guest presenter Feargal Sharkey.
