Over the last few years, I have undertaken my live events technician apprenticeship working with Entec. I have specialised in sound, specifically live audio.
During this time I have had the pleasure of being mentored by an array of engineers, techs and many of the outstanding people that work for us here at Entec. This includes the full time staff here alongside our freelancers and crew.
During my time here I have learned numerous things such as audio fundamentals and knowledge relating to sound reinforcement systems, how to design and put together control packages/line systems for touring bands. Maintenance, test and repair of audio equipment and accessories such as PA systems, sound consoles and cables.
This is thanks to the wide array of equipment we have here that I get to work with day to day such as; d&b Audiotechnik PA systems, DiGiCo sound consoles, Shure RF equipment withal much more.
I have been involved with so many great events and productions both behind the scenes at Entec during our prep stage and also out at venues working as a tech. Thanks to this I am equipped with the knowledge, skills and experience to confidently undertake my role.
Hands-on practical experience
Although, I still intend to learn something new everyday!
Personally, I think that the main advantage of taking on an apprenticeship as an alternative to other educational programmes is that you are being paid a normal wage to learn, rather than paying to learn.
Specifically in relation to working as an audio technician, the hands-on practical experience you need to do this job cannot be learned in a classroom and the only way to get it, is to actually start doing it. So why not get paid for it?
This is the route that I took and I am grateful that I did. I would like to extend a special thank you to the fantastic team we have here at Entec, especially Dan and Tom for helping me find my stride in this role and to Noreen for organising the opportunity. I would also like to thank Joe from Access Creative College.
I look forward to growing and developing my career in the years to come here with team Entec.
